Consumer Product Safety Commission. Nationwide, more than 500ꯠ of the purple, 7-oz cans were sold through drug, grocery and cosmetics outlets. Thus far, Pfizer has reports of 10 can failures. It appears that the steel sidewall may corrode in areas where enough coating wasn't applied. The corrosion may lead to can rupture, which, in turn, could propel the product and a plastic valve from the can. The rupture itself would leave jagged edges that could cause injury. Pfizer cautions consumers to discharge all the product in the can to relieve internal pressure, and then record the lot number printed on the can bottom for a replacement certificate or refund.
