ABB announces appointments to North American robotics business

ABB has announced the appointment of Michael Mahfet as vice president and general manager of its robotics business in North American.

Mahfet joined ABB earlier this year and will lead the North American robotics business based in Auburn Hills, MI. Mahfet will focus on the strategic development and continued profitable growth of the business in the region.  Prior to joining ABB, Mahfet served as the general manager of global sales of the Sensing & Inspection Technologies unit of General Electric (GE). He holds a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering as well as a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, both from Oakland University in Rochester, MI. Mahfet will serve as a management team member for both ABB’s global robotics management team and its Discrete Automation & Motion division management team in North America.

ABB has also announced the appointment of Joe Campbell as vice president of its US Robot Products Group. Campbell, who joined ABB Robotics in September of 2008 as the vice president of sales & marketing, will lead the sales, market development, technical support and production delivery of ABB robots in the US. The overall ABB robotics operation in North America consists of the Robot Products, Robot Systems and Customer Service groups. Campbell will report directly to Mahfet.

A 28-year veteran of the robotics industry, Campbell has held prominent positions with key robot manufacturers and system integrators, as well as with robotics related consulting organizations in the engineering, strategic development and marketing areas. In his new role Campbell will continue to develop existing and emerging markets for ABB robots, while also working to deliver production and technical support to systems integrators and end users alike.
