The Challenge
A leading CD manufacturing company required a labeling system to print-and-apply barcoded labels to the unhinged edge of CD jewel cases. This company also required a barcode scanner to verify the barcodes and an ejection system to reroute any product with incorrect barcodes or missing labels. What was needed was a printer applicator system that was fast and reliable.
The Solution
Label-Aire’s custom solution was to modify its new Inline Series 6000 open-frame labeling system for print-and apply labeling. The barcode labels are applied using the all-new 3138-N printer applicator. By combining Label-Aire’s proven inline conveyor technology with the advanced 3138-N, the end result is a fast and reliable labeling system the customer was looking for. The Label-Aire 3-Panel CD Case Labeling System prints and applies labels at speeds up to 60 products per minute. The 3-panel application is achieved by a pneumatic wipe down station that effectively wipes the top and bottom of each jewel case as they pass through. The barcode scanner then scans each barcode. If a CD is missing a label or the label’s barcode cannot be verified, a pneumatic eject system “reroutes” that particular CD preventing it from moving down the line.
