Has food delivered by your online service been sampled en route?

What if you ordered dinner from an online delivery service and the delivery person decided to sample your food en route before reclosing the container and handing it you for your consumption?

That is apparently what happened to a delivery from Zomato in India, and the December video capturing this “quality control” moment went viral. As a result, Zomato--an Indian restaurant search and discovery service that also provides online delivery—has introduced what it calls “tamper-proof packaging” to prevent such activity from reoccurring. Titled “Zomato Safety Sealed,” the packaging consists of a transparent flexible film bag that comes in two sizes to accept takeaway food containers in different sizes. The restaurant has to seal the package at their end before it is handed over to the delivery person. The bag can then be opened by cutting off the top strip. Instructions at the top of the bag tell the consumer “Do not accept if this seal is broken.”
