Packagers say systems up to date

The average packaging system is either state-of-the-art or comparable to the top 10% in its industry. So says a survey of 434 packagers conducted by Industry Insights for the Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute (Arlington, VA).

This is just one conclusion from the wide-ranging survey that was made public in early November at the Packaging Productivity Forum, held near Chicago.

Called the 1995 Packaging Productivity Trends Indicator, the survey studied a wide range of personnel, corporate philosophy and technology issues. Among the topics most frequently discussed at the Forum were equipment and line changeover and vendor partnerships as tools for improving line productivity. Copies of the survey alone ($295), tapes of the 11/2-day forum ($125) or both ($400) can be ordered from PMMI.
