“The innovations that have been made by the award recipients that benefit Iowa’s citizens both economically and environmentally are to be commended. They showcase the commitment being made to make Iowa a better state now and into the future,” said Branstad.
American Packaging Corporation received Special Recognition in Waste Management, through its equipment upgrades that had a 75% positive impact on waste generation, increased recycling by .8 million pounds versus the prior year, and resulted in zero landfill status.
“Just over a year ago, our Iowa facility achieved ISO 14001:2004 registration for its Environmental Management Systems, demonstrating our commitment to protecting the environment and proper utilization of resources” says American Packaging’s Ray Graham, Operations Manager. “We will continue to review every process and raw material used in our production facility to look for ways to reduce, reuse and recycle; as this is essential to the sustainability of our company as well as the communities we live in.”
The awards are sponsored by the Governor’s Office, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, the Iowa Department of Economic Development, the Iowa Department of Education, the Iowa Department of Public Health and the Iowa Waste Reduction Center.
