As demand for GLP-1 therapies continues to surge, pharmaceutical manufacturers and specialty pharmacies face increasing pressure to ensure the integrity of temperature-sensitive products throughout the small-format distribution channel. In response to these logistical challenges, Nordic Cold Chain Solutions announced the launch of its GLP-1 & Small-Format Packaging Innovation Lab on Thursday.
The facility is designed to help companies navigate the complexities of shipping temperature-sensitive payloads through parcel delivery networks. It formalizes a collaborative process where Nordic works directly with customers to design, test, and scale cold chain packaging solutions specifically for the rapidly expanding GLP-1 market.
"As the GLP-1 landscape continues to evolve at unprecedented speed, our customers need partners who can move just as fast," said Keith Baechle, Chief Commercial Officer at Nordic Cold Chain Solutions. "This lab is an extension of our customer-first mindset—bringing our engineering expertise, industry knowledge, and hands-on experience together to help customers adapt quickly and scale confidently."
The lab will focus on developing mailers and compact shippers, aiming to standardize packout procedures, enhance consistency, and accelerate the transition from concept to high-volume production. This approach is intended to address the operational needs of high-velocity fulfillment centers and e-commerce pharmacies that are central to the distribution of these therapies.
By engaging customers early in the design phase, the company aims to develop packaging built for real-world shipping conditions while adhering to the process discipline and documentation standards required in regulated healthcare environments, including those with URAC- and AIChE-aligned operations. The initiative is structured to support companies from early pilot programs through to full-scale production, providing the operational depth to manage growth without compromising performance or compliance.
