PackML World Tour promotes business process improvements through industry standard

PackML is an important software structuring methodology developed by the OMAC Packaging Workgroup. The ‘PackML World Tour’ is an initiative led by a group or packaging machine builders who are volunteering to present the business benefits of PackML to P&L stakeholders at consumer goods companies.

Tour members are reaching out to these business leaders to discuss the productivity potential of PackML in their packaging operations and the broader supply chain.

PackML is a simple concept that standardizes key data point acquisition across different makes of packaging machinery. It reduces the learning curve for plant personnel by providing a common look and feel. PackML is independent of the control system vendor or programming language in use.

PackML stands for the Packaging Machinery Language. It provides a standardized way to collect uniform data across machines, lines, shifts, plants and business units. This uniformity is essential to productivity-enhancing initiatives such as Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) analysis and to simplify MES functions.

Founding members The PackML World Tour are ADCO Manufacturing, www.adcomfg.com, Pearson Packaging Systems, www.pearsonpkg.com, and Pro Mach, Inc., www.promachinc.com. Ilapak, www.ilapak.com, has joined to host a European leg. The companies have all implemented PackML in their machine control platforms. All are members of PMMI (Ilapak’s affiliation is through its North American subsidiary Delta Systems). In addition, Pro Mach is an OMAC corporate member. The tour was concepted and organized by B&R Industrial Automation’s packaging group. B&R is a supplier member of PMMI and an OMAC corporate member.
