In UK, Tesco defends packaging

It's difficult to get food products to grocery shelves in good shape.

And, according to UK supermarket giant Tesco, packaging is a necessity. Shrink-wrapping fruits and vegetables is a necessary expense, the company claims. And because it IS expensive, the company insists they use only the amount of packaging necessary to protect the product. Still, the company is working to minimize its use of packaging, as it is a part of the Courtauld Commitment in which retailers agree to cut packaging use by 25% before 2010.
