Food packaging using nanotechnology studied in Denmark

Sales of nanotechnology products to the food and beverage sector jumped to $860 million in 2004.

However, in Denmark, the food and beverage industry is tackling issues of safety and public acceptance regarding this and other new technologies. Nanomaterials can adversely affect living organisms, hypothesized the National Food Institute of Denmark. And the need to assess health risks posed by nanotechnology is important because 25% of the food packaging business will be affected by nanomaterials in the next decade.
