Packaging machinery exports rise from 2005

U.S. exports of packaging equipment increased 7% from January through November 2006 compared to that same period in 2005, totaling U.S. $783 million. The data is based on U.S. Census estimates and was reported by the Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute (www.pmmi.org).

PMMI’s 12th Annual Shipments and Outlook Study, released last September, attributed U.S.
packaging machinery shipment growth to end users expanding production lines to accommodate new product introductions and package designs. “In effect,” said PMMI, “end users continued to replace older packaging machines with new models featuring state-of-the-art technology and promising rapid return on investment.”

“PMMI is optimistic that the industry will continue to experience solid growth in 2007 based on the consistent rise of 2006 Census numbers and positive sales cycle projections,” said Charles Yuska, PMMI’s president and CEO.
