Milk consumption is predicted to increase globally by 2.2% over the next three years, according to Tetra Pak. The company's most recent dairy index also predicts that emerging markets, including India, Pakistan, China and the Middle East will account for 96% of the global consumption growth. Growing populations, rising incomes, dietary trends and increased availability account for the growth. Consumption of Ultra High Temperature (UHT) milk (milk which can be shipped and stored before opening without refrigeration or preservatives) and other liquid dairy products is expected to reach more than 72% of total global consumption by 2012, according to the company.
