The Malaysian Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs is asking that rural co-ops pay attention to packaging when they seek to market their members' products to supermarkets. Attractive packaging, added to consistent quality, could help the smaller traders in rural areas increase their market penetration beyond small-town night markets or roadside stands. Large-scale distribution could "indirectly help increase the residents' economic level," according to the minister.
