In the UK , "getting milk" is getting greener. . .

The savings will roll in once an innovative new milk package roles out in mainstream stores in the UK—savings to the environment, as well as savings for supermarkets. Some traditional milk packages—bottles, plastic jugs and gable-tops—are being replaced by much lighter stand-up film pouches. A three-layer PE one-liter capacity pouch uses 75% less packaging than HDPE milk bottle, according to one source. The savings in weight-reduction will help retailers improve their bottom line, and will help consumers (and supermarkets) take a bigger step towards fulfilling their green goals.
