Bagasse, the "fibrous sugar cane waste from sugar production" can be
used to make economical writing paper, facial tissue and packaging. The
innovations in production of products made from the bagasse fiber were
discovered by a researcher at Queensland University. The researcher
says that he has "overcome a major technical hurdle to optimizing
bagasse fiber so it can be made into pulp for the production of paper,
board, structural and packaging materials."
