Swedish packaging industry: innovative, efficient, "green"...

Sweden is a leader in packaging technologies, according to Invest in Sweden (ISA), a government-funded agency that encourages foreign investment in its country.

The agency touts several packaging innovators including Ecolean, which produces environmentally friendly dairy containers. The flexible packaging is made from 40 percent chalk, air, and a minute amount of plastic. Xylophane is a film used for keeping foods like juice, coffee, chocolate and chips fresh. Xylophane is painted onto cardboard to increase strength—and it's edible. A third product—OrganoClick—"enables the manufacture of cellulose-based materials that are water-resistant and firm." A boon to companies seeking to reduce the use of non-renewable materials in the paper and pulp industry.
