India calls for pictorial warning on tobacco products...

will shortly issue a notification fixing stringent norms for tobacco packaging and labelling, cautioning about its ill effects.

This is being done in a bid to check smoking, especially among the youth, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Anbumani Ramadoss has said. Tobacco packaging would no more have innocuous looking messages but pictorial and bold warnings as well as the percentage of the harmful contents such as nicotine and tar.
