Common footprint fits SuperValu

Grocery retailer SuperValu recently informed its produce suppliers that its preferred package for most fresh products is the Corrugated Common Footprint modular container system developed by the Fibre Box Assn. (Rolling Meadows, IL).

"SuperValu's goal is to transition the majority of our fresh produce to modular corrugated, and to a lesser extent, RPCs," says Greg Murphy, the company's corporate transportation manager of produce and floral. "It will ultimately reduce costs within the continuum of the wholesale/retail portion of the supply chain." The RPCs will be used mainly with wet products, reducing the need for wax-impregnated corrugated and wire-bound containers. For more information, call FBA at 847/364-9600, or visit www.fibrebox.org.
