Protection from Listeria

Warning labels on food products to protect against Listeria is among the mandates proposed to the federal government by The Center for Science in the Public Interest, a consumer advocacy group.

NFPA says, however, that warning labels would not be effective. In NFPA’s opinion, a more effective solution would be targeted monitoring by regulatory agencies on products known to cause listeriosis, along with technologies such as in-package pasteurization processes to kill pathogens.
