According to the AIPIA, Pizza Hut has launched a limited-edition pizza box that uses AR technology to allow consumers to play Pac-Man via a QR code. They can then share their score to Twitter to enter a drawing for a custom Pac-Man gaming cabinet.
White Castle, in celebration of its 100th birthday, has partnered with Coca-Cola to introduce a series of three collectable AR soft drink cups. According to the AIPIA, the cups were designed by Columbus artist Bryan Moss to feature different milestone time periods for the company and come alive with sound and motion when viewed through a smartphone.
For the beer and wine industry, BEERSCANS™ and Winerytale will offer a “unique customer experience” through an AR platform that allows brands to share their own branding experience with the consumer. BEERSCANS™ is targeted to the craft beer industry and will launch in July initially with 50 brands.
The AIPIA article quotes Dave Chaffey, founding partner of BEERSCANS™ as saying “It's a stunning display. A lot of times, people just stare trying to take it all in. Imagine looking at a beer can and noticing that it's slowly getting darker, all by itself. This is a can, just in front of you, almost black and then all of a sudden, it lights up - the surface of the can is playing a video about the brewer, running 360 degrees around the can."
Winerytale is being rolled out to California wineries with a modified concept, suitable for the wine industry.
