Toll 'Wows' 'Em With Social Responsibility

Product manufacturers and high-volume retailers are pushing for packaging that’s easier on the environment. Contract packagers are feeling the pressure for “greener” packaging, and the Toll Packaging Group may just have one of the industry’s more comprehensive approaches to waste reduction.

The goal is simply “to ‘WOW!’ everyone who comes through our doors,” says Darryn Herrmann, general manager, alluding to the acronym for its War on Waste program.

Through its WOW! program, Toll Packaging has:

Recycled more than 500 tons of corrugate material and multiwall bags.
Reduced kilowatt-hours by 500,000 by updating facility systems.
Begun recycling poly-propylene super sacks that were previously sent to landfills.
