ICI paints new picture of convenience

For do-it-yourself painters, appropriate flow rate and contamination avoidance are essential for a successful project.

In the United Kingdom, ICI Paints, working with Crown Aerosols Europe, a unit of Crown Holdings (www.crowncork.com), developed the right aerosol package for ICI’s Hammerite Metalmaster Electrostatic Paint Gun range of metal coatings to satisfy both of these consumer needs.

The Hammerite Metalmaster package system consists of two parts: the paint gun and a paint canister. The paint gun delivers the protective coating at just the right flow rate.

Just as important, a plastic inner bag keeps the paint and propellant separate inside the package prior to use, via Crown’s BICAN® bi-compartmented packaging technology, which might be familiar to consumers in shave-gel packaging. The technology, as applied to the Hammerite Metalmaster package, prevents both propellant from emitting during dispensing and product from coming in contact with the package. In addition, the potential for paint drying or hardening inside the package is eliminated, thereby increasing product lifespan.

“We created the paint gun as a quick and effortless solution for coating intricate metal surfaces by painting both sides at once,” explains Jerry Hodge, global packaging development manager for ICI Paints. “It was essential that the paint canister be just as simple and efficient as the gun itself.”
