PLASTIC AND PAPER MARKET TRENDS

In its new study Paper versus Plastics in Packaging, Cleveland-based Freedonia Group reports that total demand for paper and plastic in competitive packaging markets is projected to increase 1.6% annually to 21 billion lb in 2006.

Plastic packaging demand will rise 3.3% per year to 10.8 billion lb based on opportunities in pouches, film, trays, and shipping drums. The study says that due to inroads made by plastic, paper consumption in 17 competitive markets will show no gains in the next five years. In shipping sacks and carry-out/prepared foods, paper will hold its own, according to the 279-page report that’s available for $3꽤. Call 440/684-9600, or visit www.freedoniagroup.com.
