Clean air conflicts

The Flexible Packaging Assn. (FPA) issued a statement in July expressing its disappointment with President Clinton's decision to endorse the proposed new standards for ozone and particulate matter.

The group estimates compliance costs at $3.5 billion, which would affect prices packagers pay for flexible materials. Congress has until mid-September to complete a legislative review of the proposed standards. FPA says it will continue to urge Congress to overturn the proposed standards.
