EDV coextrudes and thermoforms the high-barrier PP/EVOH/PP opaque white cups at its production facilities in Barcelona. The EVOH layer provides barrier to oxygen, moisture, and aromas, thus preserving the cereal flavors and shelf life for up to 12 months at ambient temperatures. The octagon-shaped cups are ribbed to resist deformation during retort heat processing and to offer some cooler-to-the touch insulation properties for consumers after microwaving.
Post filling, each cup is hermetically sealed with high-barrier, peelable film and retorted to achieve commercial sterility and extend product shelf life. Then injection molded plastic overcaps and wraparound labels are applied. The cereals are marketed in multi-counts, packaged in colorfully printed, paperboard sleeves. Puleva chose not to disclose any details about the sleeve, label, seal, or overcap structures, printing, or suppliers.
