Introduced in October 2005, and offered as a consumer-convenient, refrigerator-storage-space-efficient, reclosable alternative to glass or plastic packaging, the new 1-kg, 500-g, and 250-g pouches are constructed of a 6.0-mil barrier film lamination made with polyester and Printpack’s proprietary multi-layer coextrusion. The pouches are flexo-printed in 8-color, high-impact graphics.
The various pouch sizes are formed, filled and sealed on a single line (machinery manufacturer not disclosed). The cost-effective rollstock lamination provides high seal strength, impact strength, puncture resistance, and outstanding barrier to protect product organoleptics (flavor and color) and shelf life. In addition, these pouches, with their dispensing fitments (European supplier name not disclosed), allow consumers to more efficiently evacuate the last drop of product from the package, reducing product waste. Emptied pouches can be flattened for space-efficient disposal.
According to McCormick de Mexico, consumers are accepting the product and packaging very well. —Judy Rice
