A new hot beverage pod from Keurig, the K-Mug, joins two other pod formats for the Keurig 2.0 brewing system that are now available in recyclable polypropylene.

Keurig Green Mountain, Inc. has launched the new Keurig K-Mug pod, designed to brew a large, travel-mug size of hot beverage using the Keurig 2.0 brewing system, which can also brew a single cup and a four-cup carafe. Similar to the K-Carafe and Vue pod, the K-Mug pod is recyclable. The pod’s plastic cup is made from polypropylene and can be quickly and easily separated from the lid and filter for recycling.

“When we launched Keurig 2.0, one of the key insights we heard from consumers is that they want to brew more: They want to brew larger quantities of coffee, and they also want more brewing options to accommodate their varying drink occasions throughout the day. The introduction of the K-Mug pod satisfies those desires,” says Mark Wood, Keurig’s Chief Product Officer of Hot Systems.

K-Mug pods join the current lineup of more than 400 different beverage varieties from 60-plus brands available in the Keurig 2.0 system, including all of the top-10 best-selling coffee brands in the U.S.

Keurig says that the recyclable K-Mug pod is another important step in the company’s continued progress to reduce the environmental footprint of the Keurig brewing system and its progress toward achieving its broader 2020 sustainability targets. With the K-Mug pod introduction, three of the four pod formats available for the company’s Keurig 2.0 system are now recyclable. Keurig has a stated target to have 100% of its K-Cup pods be recyclable by 2020.
