The shapely, opaque white, high-density polyethylene bottles are provided by multiple suppliers, including Rexam (www.rexam.com). Bottles are topped with customized “Zelsnap” polypropylene closures supplied by Zeller Plastik, a member of Global Closure Systems (www.gcs.com).
The new 200-mL and 400-mL versions of the Zelsnap hinge closure for the Lux shampoo and conditioner products are manufactured at the Zeller Plastik plant in Shanghai, China.
Zeller worked closely with Rotterdam, The Netherlands, and London, England-based Unilever to develop the shaped, one-piece flip-top hinge closure. The challenging asymmetric design required a tapered lid with an oval-shaped contour. The design also required a slanted-angle, self-draining system on the top of the cap to drain residual water (as from shower spray). Finally, the closure also needed to deliver shelf appeal and incorporate impact-resistance, easy-twist opening for enhanced consumer convenience.
The relaunch of these products in the new packaging reportedly has met with positive consumer response and increased sales.
