Havana brews enticing shape, graphics

The allure of Havana’s sophisticated nightlife emerges through the image of an exotic woman to become the icon that dominates the full-body shrink label adorning Havana, an iced coffee from North American Beverage Co., Ocean City, NJ.

Havana is now rolling out to markets across the country in a new taller, gracefully curved proprietary bottle from Consumers Glass (Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada), says John Imbesi, NABC president. The new package was introduced about 18 months ago.

To acccommodate the new bottle, the label and graphics were redone so that the label now ascends over the cap shoulder to provide tamper evidence. The sleeve label is produced by American Fuji Seal (Bardstown, KY) of 2-mil polyvinyl chloride. It’s printed gravure in seven colors from a design developed in-house by Imbesi and a company designer, who used to be a police sketch artist.

“There are two practical benefits of a full-body label,” Imbesi states. “First, it protects the milk in the product from the sun’s UV rays. Second, the full-body label helps make the glass bottle shatter-resistant, because it’ll contain the glass pieces should the bottle break.”

The product is manufactured in three regional dairies via UHT processing and aseptic filling. Havana comes in four flavors: Classic dark roast, Vanilla, Mocha and Caffeine-free. Suggested retail price is $1.29 at supermarkets, $1.49 at convenience stores. (AO)
