Made of polypropylene/ethylene vinyl alchohol/PP, the round cups with flower petal-shaped rims were designed and developed in a joint R&D project between EDV and the Technical Department of Nestlé France. The mold design is exclusive to Nestlé France. Coeur de Saveur meat and vegetable baby foods packaged in the cups have a 12-month nonrefrigerated shelf life.
Nestlé France installed a new filling and sealing line, supplied by G. Mondini SpA, to accommodate the new preformed cups. After filling, the 200-g cups are sealed around their distinctive flower petal-shaped rims with easy-peel lidding film made of PP/EVOH/PP. They then are retort sterilized to achieve extended nonrefrigerated shelf life.
Offered as a high-end complement to the company’s glass-packed baby foods, the cupped products are marketed in single units and in two-unit paperboard sleeve packs. In addition to their unique appearance, the recyclable, high impact-resistant, easy-open cups offer the advantages of lighter weight and shatter resistance vs glass jars with steel lids. They also are competitively priced with glass packaging.
