New vf/f/s packs poultry

With four new turnkey packaging systems from CMD Corp., Canadian poultry firm Maxi Canada Inc. attained both efficiency and reliability on four of its packaging lines.

It’s running four ICON 380 intermittent-motion vf/f/s baggers equipped with Yamato scales. Lines can operate at 100 cycles/min.

The equipment produces pillow-style, stand-up bags of frozen chicken products in various sizes complete with a resealable zipper feature from Zip-Pak. Maxi needed the machinery to meet an increased demand for its product. Previous vf/f/s machinery didn’t provide the production rates necessary.

“We chose CMD equipment for its mechanical simplicity, ease of repairs, price, and overall quality,” says Shawn Seeds, plant manager for St-Lin-Laurentides, Quebec-based Maxi Canada Inc.

The most recently installed machine, added last year, is expected to bring a return on investment in less than a year, due in part to the reduction in giveaway provided by the combination of the scales and bagger. Not only can Maxi Canada now serve more customers with the machines, but it has also made the pouches easier to use by adding the resealable zipper to the pack, which they were unable to do prior to the installation of the CMD units. —ALR
