A shift from gravure printing to flexo by Alcan Packaging is now providing a cost savings for Monkhill Confectionery in England, a unit of Cadbury Trebor Bassett in Birmingham.

Its Butterkist is reportedly the top-selling brand of popcorn in Britain.

The packaging is flexo-printed in eight colors on polypropylene that’s laminated by Alcan to a metallized film. The brand is available in a range of bag sizes, including a multi-pack.

“Alcan provides us with a considerable cost saving with no compromise in quality,” says Rachel Chapman, Butterkist brand manager. “The recent developments in flexo printing have produced a stylish pack with high shelf impact.”

Butterkist popcorn is sold in toffee, sweet and salty varieties, in multipacks (shown), and individual bag sizes from 35 to 300 grams.

“We’re pleased to have won this contract. We have worked closely with the Butterkist team to produce a packaging solution that meets their requirements and will help it retain the number-one position in the market,” says Peter McAleavey, Alcan account manager. —AO
