FDA surveys consumers on trans fat labeling

FDA wants to conduct an experimental Internet study to see how consumers react to possible footnotes and cueing schemes related to the inclusion of trans fat information in the Nutrition Facts Panel of food packages.

The idea is to help consumers understand and apply the quantitative trans fat information provided in making heart-healthy food choices. The results of the study will be used by FDA in deciding whether or not to require footnotes or other information.
