Country-of-origin Web site

The Food Industry Trade Coalition, a group of food and agricultural organizations concerned about mandatory country-of-origin labeling, has launched a new Web site, www.countryoforiginlabel.com, to consolidate information about the impact of the program on various sectors. Mandatory COO labeling applies to meat, produce, seafood, and peanuts.

The site contains information about implementation for the various sectors, cost estimates, statements by trading partners, tips on finding audit firms to help with implementation, and sample labels.

"We also hope that the site will help policymakers understand the widespread impact of the law and the absence of any evidence that consumers will support the costly labels—or pay for them," said American Meat Institute president J. Patrick Boyle.
