Country-of-origin labeling on the fast track?

The Clinton Administration is fighting for renewal of its fast-track negotiating authority in international trade. Meanwhile, the American Frozen Food Institute (AFFI) is fighting to see that the proposal to require front panel country-of-origin marking on packages of frozen fruits and vegetables doesn't get wrapped into the fast track bill by supporters willing to trade their vote on fast track for inclusion of the labeling proposal.

AFFI, which argues such labeling is contrary to U.S. trade policy, cited the U.S.'s objection in 1994 to Korean proposed front panel origin requirements, which that country finally withdrew.
