According to Jeff Chalovich, chief commercial officer and president of Corrugated Packaging, one of the clear stars of the WestRock lineup at PACK EXPO Las Vegas was a patent-pending (no close-up photography) package rightsizing system taking designed for fulfillment centers, DCs, and similar e-comm-oriented channels. Pak On Demand’s Pouch System 3D scans products on a conveyor, creates a custom, right-sized pouch on demand, and seals the package for shipment. The result is a rigid, highly protective pouch that is completely curbside recyclable. In addition to eliminating unnecessary void fill and shipping charges, it also reduces labor costs through automating previous manual operations.

"The result is a highly protective package that is completely curbside recyclable," he says. "The Pak On Demand Pouch System eliminates unnecessary void fill and shipping charges, increases pack efficiency and lowers labor costs."

The system precisely cuts WestRock's Innovative KD Fold corrugated for a system that's 2-3 times faster than manual packout. The corrugated pouch carries an easy-tear strip, yet is secure during transit.

According to the company, "brands need innovative automation solutions that can deliver increased productivity and improved sustainability. By 3D scanning products on a conveyor, Pak On Demand Pouch System creates custom, right-sized pouches and seals the package for shipment."
