Plantic: Renewably-sourced whole poultry package

Combining premium in-store brand presence, leak resistance, and extended product shelf life, the Whole Poultry Package from Plantic Technologies Ltd. is made from Plantic eco Plastic, the company’s proprietary film technology that provides a biopolymer packaging material with ultra-high gas barrier properties made from 60-80% renewable materials.

The fully-recyclable Plantic material runs on industry standard thermoforming, vacuum forming, and form-fill-seal systems as a drop-in replacement for incumbent films.  The material seals at 10-25% lower temperatures compared to other similar-gauged barrier plastics, according to the company.  It is available in premade rigid trays, and rigid and flexible thermoform roll stock.  The rigid trays and roll stock are offered in high-clarity transparent form, as well as a variety of colors and even multi-color formats.

The Whole Poultry Package incorporates a Plantic eco Plastic bottom web and, when paired with a printable top web, creates a unique package that protects the product and enables premium display compared to bagged birds.  The package stores easily in the home freezer, and for retailers and brand owners removes the issue of leaky packages.

Developed to deliver superior functional performance, the package is said to increase shelf life of beef, fish, and poultry by as much as 20% depending on the application and conditions compared with more traditional formats like poly bags.
