Sustainability seems to be taking hold in areas one might not equate with environmental concern. Take Bionica toothpaste, for example. It is marketed as “Bionica: a green land,” by R.O.C.S. (Remineralizing Oral Care Systems), and manufactured by DRC (Distribution Retail Co.) Group, Russia. The company sells various oral care products, including toothpastes, toothbrushes, mouthwashes, and mouth sprays, developed by WDS Laboratory (World Dental Systems), Russia-Switzerland.

After inquiring, all the packaging information made available was that the “package is made of standard cardboard using up-to-date, standard European equipment for making oral care products.” A press release addressed the package’s design, saying, “The toothbrush package is decorated with three fragments of paintings by Wassily Kandinsky, [a] Russian famous abstract painter. The design of toothpaste Bionica Whitening is made in the best traditions of Japanese art school, implement[ing] the eco-style and point[ing] to the excellent effect of the product.”

Bionica is said to contain 94.2% natural components, “with no fluorine, flavors, colors, or sodium laurel-sulfate. Medical and preventive toothpaste Bionica is recommended for the whole family. Its formulation makes it safe for use by children under 6 years old.” A press release on Bionica touted several medical benefits. It’s uncertain where the product is sold geographically.
