Ring-hinge protects dental polishing discs

A metal tin with PP lid solves contamination concerns.

Pw 8805 Web Kerr
Kerr Dental wanted to improve package durability and functionality for its OptiDisc Finishing and Polishing Disc Set, used by dentists.

Plastic vacuum-formed lids the company was using in conjunction with an unspecified grade of board tray created a risk of contamination and the possibility of polishing discs falling from the tray. Contaminated discs had to be discarded.

Kerr Dental answered this challenge by switching to a metal tin with a polypropylene ring hinge from J.L. Clark (www.jlclark.com). The ring-type closure features tabs on the lid and container ring that lock together easily, even when handled repeatedly.

Each “well” containing the 240 finishing and polishing discs (deeply inset into separate plastic inserts in the base and lid) has its own plastic lid to lock individual discs in place using friction tabs. The ring serves the dual purpose of securing the inserted pieces in place in the lid and base.
