New package puts child safety in the zone

A multilayer tube and “push and turn” closure is helping CCA Industries of East Rutherford, NJ, meet Consumer Product Safety Commission guidelines for products containing lidocaine and dibucaine.

Pw 15816 Bikini

To help CCA achieve the necessary child resistance for its Bikini Zone product pack, the company contacted Rexam Closures (Evansville, IN) and Cebal Americas (Norwalk, CT).

The product, a topical analgesic cream for relief of skin irritation caused by waxing or shaving, contains 2% lidocaine. The 1-oz tube is a multilayer lamination that includes foil and polyethylene supplied by Cebal. Rexam provides the polypropylene child-resistant cap.

Rexam’s Tube-Lok® “push and turn” cap system is a one-piece, “bayonet-style” closure that passes CPSC requirements for child resistance and senior-friendly use. The closure is equipped with a plug seal and a large-bore orifice that was added to prevent clogs and enable smooth dispensing of the gel-like product. To use the cap, consumers simply push down on the closure and turn.

Retailing for $5.95, Bikini Zone is now available in major drug and grocery stores nationwide. —ALR
