Atlanta-based Coca-Cola Co. is revving up for the NASCAR auto racing season with a series of nine commemorative 8-oz glass bottles. Eight of the bottles feature heat-transfer decorating bearing the face of the Coca-Cola Family drivers.

McDonald's reportedly will be packing its Big Mac® sandwiches early next year in a compostable hinged-lid container. Made of limestone, potato starch, water and fibers, the containers are designed to decompose and dissolve in water.

The food industry breathed a sigh of relief when House and Senate conferees agreed to drop from the 1999 Agriculture Appropriations bill a requirement that all fresh and processed meat products containing imported beef or lamb be labeled "imported."
