Traversing printhead system

Videojet (Wood Dale, IL) has introduced a traversing printhead system for use with small-character ink-jet printers. It allows the printhead to pass across the product, coding in either direction, as opposed to the product moving past the printhead.

It prints at up to fifty locations across a 24" web or conveyor in less than 1/2 sec and comes with a remote control unit for mounting up to 20' away. Available in custom widths and mounting configurations.Control unit's user interface permits operator to set up and store up to five jobs of up to 16 print locations each for future recall. Traversing system's "inhibit" mechanism prevents the ink-jet coder from printing when product is not present, or when printhead is obstructed from traversing across the substrate.
