Detergent package wins AmeriStar award

Co-packing played a key role in developing a package whose shape and functionality bring a new look to the laundry detergent aisle. Display Pack (www.displaypack.com) created the design and Apco Packaging (www.apcopackaging.com) filled the package for Orange Glo International’s Oxi Clean Toss-N-Go “detergent ball.” The package won a 2006 AmeriStar award, which was presented at the Packaging Summit in May 2007.

Orange Glo, Littleton, CO, contacted Display Pack about a plastic clamshell that could function as the spherical “form” for both the product and the package. The package needed to hold a slurry of detergent with the consistency of pancake batter and support a working temperature of about 120˚. Orange Glo, a subsidiary of Church & Dwight Co. Inc., also wanted a package yielding a large promotional billboard and to hold additional components for the Oxi-Ball.

The design uses a PVC clamshell to bring together function and eye-catching form.
