Pharma giant makes two acquisitions

AmerisourceBergen, the largest drug distributor in the United States, has expanded on its outsourcing services by acquiring Canadian drug distributor Asenda and British pharmaceutical contract packager Brecon.

The moves strengthen AmerisourceBergen’s position in the pharmaceutical supply chain, the company says. AmerisourceBergen is also the parent company of Anderson Packaging, a Rockford, IL-based pharmaceutical contract packager.

Based in Richmond, British Columbia, Asenda had 2005 revenues of $172 million. The company distributes pharmaceuticals in the provinces of British Columbia and Alberta, which will reinforce AmerisourceBergen’s positioning in western Canada.

With 90ꯠ sq ft of packaging space, Brecon provides services to pharmaceutical manufacturers throughout Europe and Asia. Brecon reported 2005 revenues of $22 million.
