Corbion Purac: Versatile PLA homopolymer bioplastic resins

Corbion Purac expands applications for biobased PLA resins in extrusion, thermoforming, injection molding, and fiber spinning.

Corbion Purac launched its fullest PLA bioplastic product portfolio at the Fakuma trade fair in Friedrichshafen, Germany. The new portfolio of neat PLA resins, tailored to plastics processors, is available in both sampling and commercial quantities. The Corbion team also showcased a number of partner applications to demonstrate the broad range of characteristics and properties that can be achieved with PLA bioplastics, and the versatility under which PLA can be processed.

Corbion Purac’s PLA homopolymer resins are available in a range of melt viscosities and deliver improved heat resistance over standard PLA. These grades can be used as neat resin or as part of a compound in order to further optimize overall material properties. PDLA, when combined with PLA homopolymers, will yield a compound that combines good heat resistance with excellent mechanical properties. Corbion Purac’s neat PLA resins are compliant with the most relevant regulations and requirements related to bioplastics.

Corbion's PLA applications at Fakuma included single-serve coffee capsules, single-use thermoformed hot drink cups, cup lids, ice cream packaging, and fruit and vegetable storage bags.
