GMA opposes Hawaiian bottle bill extension

In a letter to the Energy and Environmental Protection Committee of the Hawaiian House of Representatives, GMA expressed its opposition to a bill that amends the definition of deposit beverage container to include two liter bottles.

GMA continues to maintain that mandatory deposit systems are costly, inefficient, and only address a narrow segment of the solid waste stream. In addition, GMA argued that adding the large bottle size, which is purchased primarily by families, is regressive and undercuts the efforts of those consumers to gain added value by purchasing a larger package size.
