200 cpm cartoner former from 3S boasts 5-minute size changes

For maximum carton size flexibility, independent ELAU servo axes drive each carton forming station on the Gemini Carton Former from 3S Packaging Technology. The maker of carton forming, loading, case packing, feeding and robotic systems designed the Gemini specifically for locking cartons.

Size changes are accomplished in under 5 minutes using an adjustable, easy-access low carton magazine, quick release plungers and lightweight carbon fiber forming heads. Adjustments are made from the touchscreen HMI.

Available in single, double and triple forming heads, the formers run at typical speeds of 80, 150 and 200 cpm respectively. Rainer Kaiser, managing director, demonstrated the 2-head machine at interpack. He noted that the ELAU automation system was easy to program and will be easy for his customers to maintain.

Options include motorized and extended carton magazines, vacuum take-away conveyor, and forming of different sizes simultaneously in different lanes, such as bases and lids.
