PDC: Shrink labeler

PDC International Corporation has re-introduced the R-250 Evolution shrink labeler with a suite of new features to provide tamper evident sleeving and multipacking, in addition to shrink sleeve labeling, for food, beverage, and other sanitary environments.

Pw 53748 Pdc R 250

Able to apply full sleeve shrink labels and tamper evident sleeves at speeds of 50 to 250 containers/min., the R-250 Evolution features a welded stainless steel frame, and complete stainless steel construction.  The robust mechanical system makes it suitable for 24/7 operations.

The R-250 uses PDC’s proprietary blade assembly. Engineered as a longer-lived alternative to spinning knives, this proprietary cutting solution lasts for months.

The R-250 is controlled with an Allen-Bradley CompactLogix PLC, Touch Screen and Servos.  Among the R-250’s options is a barcode scanner with laser scan engine that reads both 1D and 2D barcodes.

Mandrels, feed screws, and other change parts can all be switched out quickly with a tool-less changeover feature and menu-driven parameters on the touch screen.

Containers can be filled or empty, and virtually any size or shape.  PVC, PETG, OPS and PLA labels, in gauges as thin as 30 - 40 micron are all compatible.  The R-250 maintains precise graphic orientation for all package shapes.

Systems can be built with optional modules for vertical and horizontal perforations (important for consumer tamper evidence), and date coding.  The standard sensor and verification package (which includes material-out and film feed jam sensors, and upstream photo-eyes) can be enhanced to identify jams downstream, fallen bottles, low air pressure and other anomalies, and provide detailed machine status indication.

For continuous production environments, a zero-downtime, splice-on-the-fly accumulator allows roll changes without halting production, and a second unwind reel.  An articulating splice table for precise roll splicing, also conveyors and shrink tunnels, either dry heat or steam, can be supplied as part of an R-250 system.
