Multi-panel coupon label touts sweepstakes

Ott Food Products used a pressure-sensitive, multi-panel coupon label and a special cap liner on its bottled dressings and barbecue sauces to promote the hottest tourist destination in its marketing area.

The Carthage, MO, firm rolled out an "under-the-cap" promotion offering 500 Big Breakaway trips to Branson, MO. Consumers win if the closure on their bottle is one of 500 that declares a "Branson Trip Winner." The 33-mm threaded closures, from Kerr Group (Lancaster, PA), incorporate liners supplied by Tri-Seal Intl. (Blauvelt, NY). The liner consists of polyester adhesive-laminated to Tri-Seal's F-217, a three-layer coextrusion of foam polyethylene surrounded by skin layers of PE. The 500 winning liners are reverse-printed flexo in one color. The multi-panel coupon label also offers discounts on Branson lodging and attractions. A round, die-cut, p-s portion adheres to the top of the closure. The folded coupons hang down over the front of the bottle's neck. A perforation just above the words "WIN A FREE" lets consumers tear the coupons free from the bottle closure. Fleming Promotional Graphics (Fenton, MO) converts the coupon label on a narrow-web, 10-station, flexo press in a single pass. Feeding material from three different unwinds, Fleming uses a clear overlaminate of polypropylene to combine a bottom layer of 8-pt tag stock printed in three colors with a 60-lb paper stock printed in three colors and folded into a multi-panel format. The end result is a roll of pressure-sensitive, multi-panel coupon labels that Ott applied to its bottle caps with a p-s labeler.
