The sunless tanning lotion includes two different elements, a tanning agent and a protein complement that need to remain separate until application. The solution, a two-component dispensing system supplied by RPC Wiko-USA (Exton, PA), keeps the elements separate in two chambers that make up part of the system.
The system includes two product chambers, or tubes, and a pumping system. Working with Kenilworth, NJ-based Schering-Plough, Wiko customized its own Twin mechanical vacuum pumping system to meet the requirements of Schering-Plough. All of the components are injection-molded. The chambers are bottom-filled by a modified tube filler at one of Schering-Plough’s facilities.
Product is drawn in equal amounts from the dual chambers that are housed within a packaging “shroud,” and dispensed through a divided orifice when the customer presses an actuator. The package is topped with an overcap.
The clear, pressure-sensitive labels that decorate the front and back of the shroud are litho-printed by Superior Label Systems (Cincinnati, OH). The front label is printed in five colors with a sunburst logo hot-stamped in silver. Introduced last November, the 3.7-oz Endless Summer lotion retails nationally at food, drug and mass merchandise outlets at prices ranging from $10.99 to $12.99. (ALR)
